Ann Curry, in an interview on Wednesday with USA Today, confirmed the news she will step down as co-host of NBC's "Today" show Thursday morning.
It's "going to be a bit of a tough day," the 55-year-old news anchor told USA TODAY in a 40-minute phone interview Wednesday, sounding as though she were fighting back tears. Speculation about Curry's departure has been building for months, especially since April, when ABC's show "Good Morning America" beat "Today" in total viewers for the first time in 16 years after nibbling away at "Today's" lead for nearly a year. However, Curry rejects the notion she's responsible for the ratings slip that threatens Today's long dominance on morning TV. Curry's new multi-year contract with NBC will see her leading a unit covering major news stories around the world, as well as filling in as an anchor on "Nightly News" when required, USA Today reported. Many media observers have said that Curry would be better out in the field as a reporter. Do you agree with them? Share with us your thoughts on Twitter and Google+ now.

Wow, Microsoft paid $1.2 billion for a Facebook-style social networking
Software giant Microsoft has agreed to acquire Yammer, a social network service for businesses, for US$1.2 billion in cash, a deal rumored to be in the works for the past week-and-a-half.
Yammer, which is four years old, allows companies to build their private social networks, where workers can chat, shares files and collaborate on projects, away from the prying eyes of outsiders. It has co-opted many of the basic concepts familiar through Facebook to create a more business-friendly social networking service. It can improve the way employees communicate and collaborate, leading to increased productivity and efficiency, by complementing traditional applications like instant messaging and email.
The area of internal networking for companies has attracted other big tech companies such as Cisco Systems Inc, which has a similar offering to Yammer called WebEx Social, and International Business Machine Corp with a rival product called Connections.
